A Dream Destination Come True!

Switzerland was one of those countries which I used to dream about. How beautiful it seemed, the gorgeous alpine views and the amazing Swiss architecture. I was also very much aware of the fact that Switzerland was one of the most expensive countries to visit in the entire world! However, when I started planning this trip, I was determined to visit Switzerland against all odds. In order to prevent myself from backing out, the first flight I booked for my Round The World trip, was my flight home from Switzerland! No going back now! I visited this dream destination, and boy oh boy!…. It was worth every effort it took me to get there!

I was honestly close to tears. All the hard work, all of the sacrifices, all the nights spent at home…. if I wasn’t already sure that it was worth it, this would have been the moment of revelation. There is no greater feeling, than the feeling you get when you actually realize… YOU DID IT!

Everything seems that much better, after you’ve worked so hard for it. You appreciate every smell, taste and all the sights much more, than if someone just handed you the experience.

Two of the main Switzerland attractions that called to me, were the Alps and the Architecture. I’ll do the Alps in my next post, but tell me, do you think these views weren’t worth it?? Swiss Architecture Rocks!!

Lesson Learned? Never give up on those dreams that mean the most to you. The things we have to fight the hardest for, are the things that will be most worth it in the end.

About Jodi

I absolutely love to travel. Most days, it's hard to focus on anything else. However, I'd like to change my travel style from now on. I have always been a 'safe' traveler, with hotel reservations made, cruise vacations and a set timetable. I want to break out of that habit, and become an independent backpacker. This blog will serve to document my aspirations to experiment with traveling solo, around the world!

  1. Great shots – Switzerland looks great! Love your lesson learned – so very true – never give up on those dreams! You go girl!

  2. I envy you so much, Jodi! Switzerland is also one of my dream destinations. Every time I see the picturesque pictures of Swiss villages with the majestic Alps at the background, I always take a deep breath (and sometimes with watery eyes). Congratulations for making your way to Switzerland!

    • Thanks! Switzerland was $$$ but beyond awesome! I know you’ll get there soon, and I’ll be waiting to read about it! Ahhh, the envy goes both ways lol. I miss Asia! I didn’t make it to Indonesia nor Thailand, but I’m working on it!

  3. What a beautiful place – thanks for sharing!

  4. Hi,
Fantastic photos, and I totally agree, you do appreciate things more when you work hard for them. Looks like you had a great time. 🙂
Thank You very much for visiting my blog.

  5. I’ve been checking your blog for a couple of days, it’s great to see the snow in the Alps! Reminds me of my childhood Heidi (Shirley Temple) movie, and book, cheese, cows, winter sports. Everything is on a high elevation, even their lakes. Love the chalet-like buildings too.

When I was growing up our neighbors moved to Switzerland. They sent us a picture of their house, it was chalet-like! I still remember it.

About four years ago, at Christmastime, I tucked into a very posh old country club in the Richmond area (The Country Club of Virginia). It seems the tradition now is for the chef to make a gingerbread model of the main building. Their pastry chef must have been from Austria or Switzerland because it was the most incredible snow covered chalet looking like it was situated on a very narrow presipice on the side of a mountain in the middle a blizzard! It would have been imposible for anyone to have made that rustic chalet unless they came from there! It was truely a work of art. I’ll never forget it. I was thinking of it the other day after looking at your pictures of the amazing Alps.

  6. What an awesome story! Thanks for sharing it with me 😀 Yep, Switzerland was definitely a big trip for me. The Caribbean is like, the total opposite of Switzerland so I was easily impressed Lol.

The homes are truly stunning, but the train rides are an attraction too! I love being in transit, so long bus and train rides are fun to me.. but the beautiful train ride from Austria to Switzerland, I will never forget! Thanks for reading!

  7. Where were you and what were the circumstances when you were standing in snow with snow capped mountains behind you and what looked like a shear drop behind you!

    • Hahaha! I was on the Alps! I’ll be sharing the experience in my next post! 😀

      • Fair enough! I will be awaiting your post…..I can’t help but ask, are you in transit now on your plane trip back home? Obviously you are able to communicate on your computer. I wasn’t sure how that worked….

      • I’ve actually been back for a few weeks now, trying to catch up on my posts. It’s extremely difficult to blog on the road. Hopefully, next time I will be much better at it!

  8. I never made it to Switzerland during my time in Western Europe for the reason it’s so expensive! I figured I’ll visit when I had more money. Thanks for sharing your experience and photos — now I have that itch to go there!!!

    • I forgot all about the money now that I have the memories. It was beyond worth it! The train rides in Switzerland were sooo great! You’ll love it!

  9. Jodi — Love your enthusiasm for all the new places you’ve visited, and congrats on breaking out of the “safe” travel mode and going for backpacker broke! Thanks for visiting my site http://heifer12x12.com … and hope to follow your travels, too!

    • Thanks Betty! I love the backpacker lifestyle and I can’t wait to hit the road again. I’ll definitely be following your trip! Thanks for stopping by!
