Reasons Why You Should Take A Career Break

Are you a 9-5er, possibly working 60 hours a week, when you factor in all those overtime hours? Does your life revolve around your job? Well, if you’re anything like me…A person who loves their career, yet has a passion to try something new, a career break just may be your answer.

There are many types of career break options, and how you create yours is totally up to you. My career break will be in the form of a gap month, in which I will travel to distant cities to take in the sights, sample new cuisines and to have many great experiences.

Try a new dish in a distant country

Perhaps you are the sort of person who have a hidden desire to learn a new language or skill. Always fancied yourself diving in Hawaii? Are you letting the fact that you can’t dive hold you back? You should then consider taking a mini career break of about 2 weeks, to visit Hawaii, join a scuba course and make your dream a reality.

A career break has no real time limit. It’s as long or as short as you can afford it, and the main goal is to get as much out of the experience as you possibly can. Some people may barely manage to get 2 weeks off, while others decide to quit their job in order to make their career break their priority. What’s right for someone else may not be right for you, so put a lot of thought into it.

One may ask, how can a career break really help me? The answer is pretty simple… Everyone needs to recharge. A break from the vigorous routine of your regular life can be the perfect antidote to a monotonous lifestyle. We may be career driven individuals, but every once in a while, it’s nice to just focus on enjoying yourself. Relax on a beach, explore a reef or even do some volunteer work. Are you ready to plan your very own career break? If so, AWESOME!

Just chill out

About Jodi

I absolutely love to travel. Most days, it's hard to focus on anything else. However, I'd like to change my travel style from now on. I have always been a 'safe' traveler, with hotel reservations made, cruise vacations and a set timetable. I want to break out of that habit, and become an independent backpacker. This blog will serve to document my aspirations to experiment with traveling solo, around the world!
